{hope}

This week's topic was "Hope," in honor of September being Childhood Cancer month, and the work that the Gold Hope project is doing with the families in the trenches battling childhood cancer.

The story behind this is amazing.

I feel like this one needs to be told with the story. When I captured this image a few days ago, I literally got chills. Not because of my photo but because of the duo in the lower right. There was a man, maybe in his late 20's, shirtless with the typical Oregon surfer-dude look. He pushed a woman, probably about the same age, down a hill in a rad off road type wheelchair. She appeared delayed, both physically and mentally. As soon as these two hit the beach he started running top speed, laughing which in turn lit up the woman's face with joy and laughter as well. They ran, spun circles, and ran some more. They stopped for a brief moment and watched the sea which is what I captured here. I'm not sure what their connection was - was he her caretaker, brother, friend? Regardless his joy and love towards her was evident and hers was as well. It gave me hope. It reminded me that despite what we hear and see in the news 24/7 that there are SO many good people out there. You just have to open your eyes and look around.

I am so glad there are people willing to look past the obvious and find joy in the moments.

The light and color palette work well together to create a feeling of softness and hope...

I loved the framing of this photo, and how you can just FEEL the hope she has.  This made me smile.  The whimsy of it is wonderful!

The simple hope of a Mother and all her dreams for her baby are summed up in this one look.

This one made me smile!  This photo is not a side that the mothers see... the infant nursery... but what a wonderful place it is!  The pain is gone and all that remains is the love, joy, and hope of a new soul in the world.  I also loved the unique perspective with the curtain dividing the frame.

......................................................

This is perfectly composed... a moment of connection between mother and baby.

......................................................

The holding of hands... the stare of the baby... the wires all jump out first, then as I looked farther and saw the stitches of the heart surgery... wow.  There are no need for words to explain what both the baby and parents have just survived...

......................................................

At a time when people are apt to lose hope in our country, it is a nice reminder that I would not want to live anywhere else.

......................................................

I loved the storytelling aspect of this, along with the wonderful framing.  This immediately brought me back to the moments of watching the first ride, and holding my breath, hoping the child makes it.  (To think of it, I am still holding my breath, hoping my children make it!)

......................................................

And the winner is....

This photo embodied everything I think of when I think of hope, and childhood.  The wires, the baby making eye contact, the fact that we cannot see the parent, only the connection between the fingers... this is a beautiful capture.
